Goal
The goal of this project is to help build a sustainable peace in Kenya through youth empowerment, the eradication of tribalism and playing sports!
After the general election in Kenya in December 2007, violence ripped through the country leaving approximately 1300 dead. The violence spread along tribal lines, and the purpose of this project is to unite the Kalenjin, Kisii and Luo tribes, three tribes heavily affected by the post-election violence. This project took place in the villages of Kiptere, Sondu and Matongo, in the western part of the country in between Kericho and Kisumu.
Through grassroots movements on the ground in their communities, the goal of this project is to unite these tribes, create a shared understanding of history, values and culture, and ensure that the next election proceeds smoothly without violence. The purpose of this project is to spread peace and create awareness while empowering youths and establishing leadership opportunities for those who wish to get involved in a region largely overlooked by foreign attention.
